Rafael Nadal beats Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach semifinals at ATP Finals

World No. 2 Rafael Nadal has booked his place in the last four of the ATP Tour Finals by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 at London’s O2 Arena.

The result means that Rafa, who will face Russian Daniil Medvedev on Saturday, has now reached the semi-final stage of the season-ending event on six occasions.

After the match, Rafa said:

“I think I played quite well for such a long time. That game at 5-4 in the second set affected me a little bit, but then I was able to get the break early in the third, then he broke me and I broke again.

“I was winning serves quite comfortably until that moment, after that everything changed and I started to serve worse.

“But in general terms it was a positive match for me. To reach the semi-finals in the last tournament of the year is an important thing.”

  1. A rollercoaster second set, and unfortunately Rafa failed to close it out. He played a terrible service game and let Daniil back in……Rafa gave his all, but not good enough today😬 Congratulations to Daniil👏

Rafa, thank you so much for all the joy and excitement you brought this year, 2020 has been difficult 🙏❤️ Looking forward to get back to some normalcy in 2021. Good luck to you next season, hope you win more big titles, all the best!

Stay healthy and stay safe Rafa and all the Rafa fans🥰

  2. Oh boy.

    Rafa was so close!

Kudos to Medvedev but this one will sting for a while. Rafa served for the match in the second set and couldn’t close it out.

Champ did his best. I imagine that in an alternative universe he served out the second set and goes on to destroy Thiem in the final:)

In this universe though, Rafa had an amazing year, tied Roger with 20 grand slam titles and made us delirious with happiness.

Rest up champ, you did your best but it simply wasn’t to be! Maybe the first title in Turin!!

  3. According to Yahoo Sport Australia, Rafa is on an incredible 71 match win streak when he wins the first set! Keep it going Rafa 🤩😍 Vamos 💪🍀❤️

    • Yes Mimi, and that’s why I freak out if he loses the first set of a match.

Another statistic making the rounds this week is that Rafa is the eighth player to make it to 20 [now 21] won matches at the ATP Finals.

      Rafa must be a statistician’s dream 😂

      • Me too, Margo, especially best of three matches……I hope Rafa win the first set and the match today🤞
        All the best to Rafa🍀❤️
