Rafael Nadal moves into French Open second round

12-time champion Rafael Nadal started his 2020 Roland Garros campaign with a straight sets win. The second seed moved into the second round of the French Open on Monday, requiring two hours and two minutes to beat Egor Gerasimov 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. He improves to 16-0 in first-round matches at the clay-court Grand Slam championship, with 14 of those wins coming in straight sets.

“I’m not going to make a mistake – the attitude and motivation is always here,” Rafa said after the match.

“It is a different Roland Garros to the one we are used to and the conditions are very challenging. I’m happy to be in the second round – it is a good start.”

A good start to his chase for a 13th Roland Garros title.

  2. Yes a very solid start with few errors- I think Rafa looks like he has the right energy level for the beginning of the tournament – not too much not too little . A very good balance. Looking forward to the next match. Rafa – if you by chance become very font of the cold and heavy wether – please come living with us in Denmark – you would be so welcome 🙂

    • Congrats Rafa! – Good luck in the second round 👏🏻😘🍀 VAMOS CHAMP! 🎾💪🏼🤩

  3. Congratulations, Rafa! One match at a time. Look forward to your problem-solving. Best wishes into the next round!

  4. Good for Rafa on his first match of seven. From what he has been saying he is going to concentrate only on what he can control and do everything in his power to win. Better to put all the negatives of the French Open behind him to free his mind to get into his winning groove.

    Best of luck to Rafa.

    RAFA ROCKS

  5. Congrats, Rafael Nadal. Happy to see you fighting under less than ideal conditions. Stay healthy.
Good luck in the next round👏💪👍🤛🍀❤️

  6. I didn’t have a good day work-wise, so stopped early and watched Rafa. I didn’t expect the blue outfit, thought it was going to be bright green, but I should have guessed due to the strap of his new Richard Mille watch. He brings blue skles to the rather depressing weather and atmosphere of RG. Well played by Rafa, generally strong service games and very few errors today. I’m sorry Gerasimov was injured, never like to see that. We fought hard and I hope he has at least some satisfaction in having broken the serve of the King of Clay on Chatrier.

One step climbed. Onwards and upwards we go. Vamos!

  7. A solid performance from Rafa with the first match under his belt. He looked calm, didn’t go for too much and he served much better today (the serve being part of the problem that he said he’d fix and he did). I love his positive attitude, motivation and his willingness to adapt to different situations. His post match on-court interview summed it all up. Bravo champ! On to R2.

  8. Rafa congratulations well don I watch you playing today good luck next much vamosssssss this is your fever another French Open your fans for ever 🎾😘👍😍🎾😘👍😍🎾😘👍😍🎾😘👍😍🎾👍🙏

  9. I thought it went very well. It was a shame about Gerasimov’s ankle, but the match was pretty much won by then anyway. I was bothered about the cold weather, and all the comments being made about the new balls, but that was a good start.

  10. Congratulations Rafael. You have improved your French since last year. I am really impressed. It’s nice to hear you speaking French so good and of course congratulations for your match and hopefully your today Partner will recover soon.
