Australian Open 2020: On-court interview

On court with Rafael Nadal after his first round victory against Hugo Dellien, where Rafa continues to speak out in support of Australian Bushfire relief.

All the world of tennis is together to try to help the disaster that we are going through here in Australia this last couple of months. So just super happy that we raised a lot of money for it. I know money’s not everything, but in some way I think that can help to recover the disaster that we are going through a little bit faster.

Your comment “Ha, that’s wishful thinking” seemed smug and sarcastic. Hence my comment.

I too feel that he won’t win the AO but he could surprise me which would make me happy for him. I too would be happy. I said I thought he should skip this OA.

Previously I said I hoped he would concentrate on clay. That was premature on my part. He won the the FO, the USO, Rome, and the Canadian Masters. He keeps surprising and that’s what keeps fans’ hopes up. For me anyway.

And he is too prone to injury. Always a problem. He doesn’t give his body time to heal. After the USO he mentioned he was still having pain in his hand. Did he rest? No. Who knows what is going to happen now. I hope his injury is behind him and that he can have another AO win. Time will tell.

At least this time you put forward your reasoning behind an AO loss instead of just saying he won’t win.

P.S. The reply to your comment button is missing.

P.S.S. “well-known state of mind” that made my day

  2. I’m talking to the genuine Rafa fans now, not The Prophet of Doom – aka Maria Snake Island. Rafa won his first two matches in straight sets, so psychologically and physically for him, that is good. Yes, I know Rafa’s break point conversion rate is poor so far, but it’ll get better. The rest of his stats today look healthy and right now the most important thing is that he won. I say onwards and upwards!

  3. I just hope he gets through and this is not something mental in addition to not being in good form

  4. OK Raj, was just trying to help.

I don’t come here as often because I was horrified about the number of tracking sites that I found on my computer each time I sign in here.

After each visit I have to go in and delete all web data so I can’t be tracked by sites connected with RNF.

      • RR, you’re welcome. Just came from cleaning out cache before coming here. Will do it again when I leave.

The first one I looked up was something from CHINA. CHINA??? If you haven’t already, I suggest you look up some of those URL’s to get an idea. We all know what’s going on with tracking but for me it’s scary to actually see the kinds and amount of tracking that goes on. It’s sooo creepy and invasive and dishonest.

  6. Why there is no post like ‘What time does Rafa play R2’ and the matchup history against the opponent? Still the site is not fully functioning I guess

    • Rafa is scheduled to play on Thursday [it’s already Thursday in Melbourne] at 8:15pm local time. His opponent: Delbonis

He will have to wait until Simona Halep finishes her mat on Rod Laver Arena.

If you go back you will see Mimi’s and other fans’ Rafa lineup.

You can also check with Scoreboard or, just Google Nadal.

      • Yes Margo, I understand and i get those details in AO site and google.. Still its satisfying to read on this site and go through rafans comment section.

  7. Gran corazon tienes Rafa, gracias por tu aporte para esta nación que tanto daño ha tenido, yo vivo en España pero me he puezto en el lugar d esas personas y se que lo estan pasando fatal.
Suerte para el abierto d. Australia, conforme vas madurando mejor jugador te vas haciendo, SIEMPRE CONTIGO!!!

      • It’s wishful thinking for every fan to want their favourite player to win, be it Federer, Djokovic, Nadal or any other. There’s a definite possibility, one can only pray and believe.

      • Keep it up MSI and you will be relegated to the same corner as the SPAMMER. SPAMMETTE?

      • I’m talking to the genuine Rafa fans now, not The Prophet of Doom – aka Maria Snake Island. • Merlyn..yes I believe that Rafa is up for GS no. 20 and this being AO. At the same time this very humble Champion of Champions does not covet any title at either GS / Masters
He plays to his very best in each and every match and be it disappointing for him he accepts that his level of play in that particular match may not have been as good as he wished, but he takes disappointment on his chin. Vamos my King of tennis

      • Mac, Margo, Merylyn, Lilian Connors & CO,

My comment is not at all negative, but simply the truth. Believe it or not, I love Rafa more than anyone of you. Perhaps the only difference we have is that I like to tell it (the truth) as it is. It may hurt, but it is also a healing balm for people who have conscience. But i want to believe that you guys have conscience; i cannot say that about Fan Love anyway.

She cannot see the truth even if it is standing on the ridge of her nose! Lol….

Now, let’s get serious. How can any serious-minded Rafa Nadal fan come out here and wish that he wins both AO & FO consecutively??? By all possible permutations, by all possible stretch of the imagination, IS IT REALISTIC? Yes, ordinarily he can win the FO for sure, but even the FO (which will be the odd no 13), I won’t bet on Rafa winning this time around.

But, let’s talk about the AO – 1.The AO is the most difficult GS for Nadal 2. He has only won once, way back in 2008 (12 yrs ago)!!! 3. He has subsequently reached the finals several times and lost 4. He currently has a consecutive losing streak of 9 (19 sets) to ND on hard court 5. Since 2014 USO, Rafa has not been able to solve the ND conumdrum and this is a big shame to his resume and claim to the GOAT title – Rafa has willfully allowes Novak turn the H:H on hard courts to a Serena – Maria Sharapova rivalry! 6. Roger Federer has solved the Rafa Nadal puzzle and has been destroying Nadal at will (except on Clay)!

So, clearly, against this background/history, I’m at a loss to fathom how any Rafa Nadal fan can boldly come out here and spew that Rafa will win both AO and FO! Hence, my response that such nonsense is nothing, but wishful thinking – realistically and clearly, it cannot happen. If it were the delusional Fan Love that expressed such, I might likely not give a response given her well-known state of mind.

As an ardent and true fan of RN – who i believe and confirm to be the GOAT even if he doesn’t end up officially as the GOAT – i can only realistically wish him to, at least go far so as to be ahead of ND and still retain his No 1 ranking. I think that is the best any honest and sound-minded RNF can wish our great champion of all times. If not for injuries, RAFA’s GOAT status would have indeed been long asserted.

On the 13th FO, hmnn…all I will say is fingers crossed. The 13th is myth logically an unlucky number. But as Rafa himself would always say, ”we shall see”

Conclusively, I’d predict ND or Alexander Zverev for the win at the AO 2020

For the FO, hmnn…anyone of Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitpas or ND may like spring a surprise. The Devil is in the 13th.

But, as always a la Rafa Nadai, we go hour by hour, day by day and match by match…..we shall see……..cheers
