Nineteen Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal has earned a place in the third round of the Paris Masters with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Frenchman Adrian Mannarino.
He will next meet Stan Wawrinka, who beat Marin Cilic 7-6(3), 7-6(5) in just under two hours earlier today.
It’s not easy to come back after a while without being on the tour.
Tomorrow is another day, another tough match against Stan. Every day on this tournament is so difficult.
Rafa, playing his first event since getting married earlier this month, can secure the year-end top ranking ahead of Novak Djokovic for a fifth time by winning the trophy on Sunday. He is 49-6 this season and is the current leader in the ATP Race To London.
Our champ is playing in Bercy for the first time since 2017 and only the seventh time overall.
