VIDEO: Rafael Nadal not worried about Nick Kyrgios’ underarm serves and tweeners

Rafael Nadal talked to the press after his straight-sets win over Yuichi Sugita in London.

“For me, it doesn’t make any difference [if Kyrgios does underarm serves and tweeners],” Rafa told Spanish press at the All England Club:

My opinion I gave it and I will give it again. It has not changed. It doesn’t make any difference to me. He can do whatever he wants with his life. I am not upset by anything he does or wants to do. I go out to play my match. I am a professional and I go out to play my match. I don’t care what my rival can or cannot do. I am thinking about tennis and nothing else. I do not concern myself with things like that in this part of my career. I have to give my maximum and I have to win my match.

  1. Kyrgios is a disgrace to the game of tennis & should be banned for life. Rafa behaved like the perfect gentleman & ignored his appalling behavior on court today. Bravo Rafa, hope you win the title.

  2. I am an Aussie and 99% of us think Kyrgios and Tomic should be banned from playing, they are both there not for their love of tennis but to pick up a first round paycheck. They do not represent Australia’s tennis at all. Most love the game, love to represent our country and have respect for the fans, ball people and all concerned. I too, hope that Rafa will wipe him off the court in straight sets. As seen in Kyrgios last match against Thompson he will just slam serves and even when trying to lose will slam returns which may go on.
Just play your own match Rafa, enjoy your game and the result will be there for you! Vamos Rafa 🎾

  3. You tell them Rafa!!! You will not be goaded by the press. (Thanks to uncle Toni). You are a professional and don’t pay any attention to gossip. Just go out there and do your job as always!!!!!❤️

  5. When watching some highlights from the Kyrgios match I was astonished at the amount of cheering for this guy. One of our major newspapers here in Canada is calling him a surprising crowd favourite. What’s up English fans? You know and respect the game too much to encourage this oaf.

  6. I really don’t like Kyrgios. Slagging off other players, swearing at officials, throwing chairs around, those comments he made about Donna Vekic … there’s nothing clever about behaving like that.

  7. Rafa the optimist. And I’m glad he’s so relaxed and upbeat.

Asked if he ever felt down about all the tournaments he missed because of injury, to paraphrase Rafa, he said for all he has achieved he doesn’t think about that because he has gained so many good things. It would be wrong to complain.

I agree wholeheartedly. Rafa lives in the present, not the past. He plays to win, no matter what.

    RAFA IS AMAZING

  8. It’s too bad we even have to discuss that rude jerk, Kyrios. Even his Mom can’t deal with him. I know many wonderful Australians and he is unlike them. Rafa’s reactions to his behavior are the best and prove that K. didn’t get to him and will not. And speaking of Moms, Rafa’s must be really special. I loved Rafa’s whole interview today and also Federer’s interview was very reassuring. Hope Roger doesn’t invite K. to Laver Cup.

  9. Whatever Kyrgios throws at Rafa he will get it handed right back to him. I am wishing Rafa nerves of steel and one of his best days at the office.

    GO RAFA!

    SIEMPRE CONTIGO

  10. VERY well says Michelle… I totally agree with every word and sentiment…. couldn’t have put it better myself. Rafa is THE most humble honourable and true Champion ever who is justifiably respected and loved throughout the world fir the wonderful example he sets to young and old alike. I pray he beats Kyrgios and goes on to win Wimbledon after ‘they’ are so biased against him yet again this year.

  11. Kyrgios is a very tough challenge and I fully expext a very competive match . I think Rafa should plsy offensive tennis like Thompson did and concentrate on attacking Nick’s backhand and keeping Nick in the deep corner much like playing Del Porto . Nick will bend to Rafa’s will if the points are dragged out and causing him to run alot . I’m going to really enjoy Rafa winning this match !

  12. Kyrgios is not fit to be on the same court as Rafa. He is the polar opposite of everything Rafa stands for.

He has a massive chip on his shoulder, which explains his lack of respect for people who are more successful than he is, just plain jealousy. He can’t accept that people he slags off, like Rafa and Djoko, have WORKED for all their achievements – they didn’t expect to be handed titles as a right, like he seems to expect. Because he can’t play on clay, he says clays sucks and boycotts R Garros. A real professional, and role model! Contrast this with Rafa, who in his early days was labelled “just” a clay courter. What was his reaction? To work so hard on improving his game that within 3 years of his debut, he had won his first W, made 5 straight W finals, and won a second crown. No wingeing and complaining, Kyrgios – Rafa just went out and did it. He wouldn’t have dreamt of boycotting W, just because it was an unfamiliar/unknown surface for him. He made himself learn how to conquer grass, and be a complete tennis player, not act like a spoiled brat. One of the many reasons he is loved and respected the world over, unlike you.

So keep your mouth shut, Kyrgios, and work on your career, and then you may be in a position to criticise better men than yourself.

    • I agree and i also think Rafael has to win this match kyrios also said if you can’t beat me no way are you the best of all-time I think Rafael has a point to prove and i think he will

      • Pffftttt. Kyrgios could beat Rafa 10 times in a row and it will not make him 1/10 of the player Rafa is and has been since he first came on tour. 18 more slams, 34 more masters than Kyrgios has say he’s better. Period. Kyrgios, like Marcel Rios (who? you say. Look him up) before him will go down as a talented nonentity.

    • This must be the best ever piece I’ve read in a long time on this site. Bravo, Michelle!
Nick Kyrgios sucks and sucks real bad.

Nothing sucks as much as Nick Kyrgios. Absolutely nothing.

      cheers

      • Nadal should give Kryrios a good spanking and a good dose of hunility . Now that I said that , lets see it happen ! Vamis Rafa !

  13. Rafa, thank you for your respect for the professional game of tennis. I know you will play your heart out in the 2nd round. No worries for kygios…..win big!

    • Whatever Kyrgios may say Rafa is a complete player who has 18 Grandslams and 34 ATP 1000 trophies. Kyrgios has none except his bad behavior and lack of respect for the greats. Hope Rafa will win this match. He deserves it. Vamos Rafa
