Rafael Nadal earned his 90th victory in 92 matches at the French Open on Sunday afternoon, beating Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Londero 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals on the Parisian clay for the 13th time in his career. Also, it is a 38th Grand Slam quarterfinal for our champ.
The King of Clay has only been defeated twice in his French Open career and the 78th-ranked Londero never looked like becoming the third man to achieve the feat.
After the match, Rafa said:
I am very happy. Juan is a very good player so I congratulate him and his team.
It’s an incredible feeling to be in another quarterfinal at this tournament which has been the most special of my career.
The defending champion next faces either Kei Nishikori or Benoit Paire on Court Philippe Chatrier for a place in the last 4 as he looks to land his 18th Grand Slam title. He has won 10 of his 12 matches against the Japanese, and all four against the Frenchman.

Congratulations, Rafa!
Well don Rafa Take a Rest after the hot day vamossssssssss champ this is your to the finals 💪💪💪💪🎾🎾🎾🎾👍👍👍👍😘😘😘😘❤️❤️❤️❤️💪💪🎾🎾😘😘❤️❤️👍👍😘😘🏆🏆🏆
The handshake at the next was very cordial, but Londero’s constant fist pumping irritated me. He did it on Rafa’s errors too. Rafa did not look quite as sharp, The windy conditions could have been a reason. I hope Rafa has a wonderful birthday and gets lots of rest.
Roll on, Rafael.🤗We have witnessed your play when you are in the zone, and it is breathtaking. It is what keeps us watching-whoever the opponent is becomes negligible. Have a wonderful birthday in Paris.💪👊👏👍🎂🍀❤️
That was fun for the most part, some lovely play from Rafa, and Londero was very good in the longer rallies, particularly his angles and ability to redirect Rafa’s cross-court forehand with a BHDTL.
Then the third set – Londero has a short hot streak, gets his one break (thankfully had Rafa already had two). Rafa goes 0-30 on serve again and gets a time violation warning because a few disrespectful fans are shouting, smiles sweetly at the umpire and agrees with her, serves an ace to hold. Most other players would have been whining and arguing. Love it Rafa, don’t let it get to you and let the tennis do the talking.
A much deserved day off tomorrow to rest and celebrate!
Congratulations to Rafa on his 90th win at Roland Garros.Happy Birthday 🎂 tomorrow.Simply Amazing.Onwards and Upwards.Vamos!Only One Rafa.
Well done champ! Victory and off the court in a relatively short time. When Londero broke Rafa in the third set to go 2-4, he threw everything at him, including the kitchen sink. All credit to Londero because he earned the break, but he was just delaying the inevitable as the writing was aready on the wall.
Get a good rest, Rafa and prepare yourself for harder battles ahead.
Great match as always. Your hitting your stride at the right time. Getting better with each game. So good watch you on TV. Stay rafa strong play smart. Great fan I am .my Mr Tennis. Keep the bull rolling. 🇪🇦🇺🇸👑🏆🎾🥇
If he makes the QFs – I’m not tempting fate by assuming – I don’t know who would be worse, Roger, Stef or Stan! They’re all playing so well. But Rafa is too <3 .
I’m cheering for Stan! But everyone under the bus for RAFA!!!! Good match today for our champ. I couldn’t see it since my provider showed Stan/Steph instead – properly so, it’s a much more competitive match. But given the choice – EVERYONE under the bus for Rafa! They could be showing the Match of the Century while Rafa played a guy ranked 349 and I’d watch Rafa.
😂😂😂. Me too Ramara.
Rafa had to play young strong fighters and he won playing top real competition and strong matches. The others had easier draw so they “looking good” must be considered in relevance to who they faced ……..

Well done champ. Take rest after the very hot day and than all the for Tuesday. Vamos Rafa <3
Feeling wonderful To see Tsistipas and Wawrinka match so that will aid in setting up Fedal in a way due to Exhaustion
First time Federer will feel after 8 years what it feels like to play in Rafa home as he was reluctant to play Him on clay and closing h2h on other surfaces
Vamos Rafa
Excellent Effort by Our Champion
Waiting to see our Champion to setup Fedal rivalry and Settle scores with Swiss once again. Argentina must be proud of his clay talent
