Rafael Nadal gets good Madrid Open draw

After reaching semi-final in Barcelona, Rafael Nadal continues his clay court season at the second ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event on clay in 2019, the Mutua Madrid Open. He will look to add to his record haul of five titles in Madrid and 33 at ATP Masters 1000 tournaments.

Rafa is No. 2 seed and has a first-round bye. He will open his campaign at La Caja Mágica against the winner of the match between Felix Auger Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov. Our champ could face Daniil Medvedev in the third round, prior to a quarter-final against Kei Nishikori.

Rafa’s potential route to the final:

  • 1st round: Bye
  • 2nd round: Felix Auger Aliassime or Denis Shapovalov
  • 3rd round: Nikoloz Basilashvili
  • Quarter-final: Kei Nishikori
  • Semi-final: Alexander Zverev
  • Final: Novak Djokovic
If the men play to seed the quarter-final line up will be:
  • Novak Djokovic v Juan Martin Del Potro
  • Dominic Thiem v Roger Federer
  • Alexander Zverev v Stefanos Tsitsipas
  • Rafael Nadal Nadal v Kei Nishikori

Rafa has won a clay-court title in each of the past 15 seasons dating back to his first victory in Sopot in 2004, and he is trying to capture his first trophy of 2019 after semi-final showings in Monte-Carlo and Barcelona.

  1. Rafa ware your sleeveless top (always looks great) to bring you good luck and intimidate the opposition.

  2. Margo, Also thanks for so eloquently explaining the purpose of our site to the woman from Quebec. Wish I could have made the case as well as you did. We don’t want negative comments about our favourite player here. They are inappropriate. Positivity always. Vamos Rafa.

  3. Margo,
I was actually sending a hint to Nicole from Quebec to start a fan site as she prefers Felix and Denis. I should have been more explicit as it seems to have been misunderstood by some people. I have been a loyal fan of Rafa for 12 years and have no interest in the other players—even my fellow Canadians. I respect them as Rafa does but will happily continue to support Rafa as long as he continues.

    • RR from Canada, I guess the word “happier” in your comment was the clue to what you meant. I read it more than once and thought it was a general comment as opposed to being directed to a specific person. My apologies for any confusion.

I always thought you were a Rafa fan but you were just trying to help get a fan site started for Felix and Denis. LOL DUUUUHhhh me!
      I’m laughing like heck.

      RAFAMAZING ROCKS

  7. Wish and pray you get your winning form back against any opponent, Rafa. But win or lose, to me you’re the best in skill and decorum. Go out there and win! We’re all behind you

  8. This is a respectful site for Rafael Nadal FANS. Perhaps someone would be happier starting a fan site for Felix and Denis. Here we always support Rafa regardless of the country his opponents come from.

    • RR from Canada, managing a blog is a serious undertaking and time consuming. I suggest you contact RNF directly and ask if they can recommend someone.

      Thanks for supporting Rafa.

      RAFAMAZING ROCKS

  9. You can do it RAFa. You are still the best!! The best of luck to you always!

  10. I hope Félix Auger Aliassime or Shapovalov get the W over Rafa …because I’m from Québec,Canada Sorry guys.

    • Nicole, this is first and foremost a Rafa fan site. Fans gather here to support Rafa. Some of us like other players for sure but fans here root for Rafa, and Rafa alone.

Some of us cheer for other players but ONLY when Rafa has crashed out of a tournament.

You may not realize it, but to come here and cheer another player over Rafa when he is still in a tournament is somewhat disrespectful. Hope you understand.

Yes, anyone has the right to support any tennis player but should be mindful of where and when she does it. Here, Rafa fans want Rafa to win.

      RAFAMAZING ROCKS

      • I totally agree with Margo!!! We are and always will be RAFA fans and while you or anyone else has a choice insofar as supporting other tennis players, this is not the site to do it.
