He deserves much more. It has been an emotional day. Happy of course for the victory but very sad to say goodbye to one good friend and one friend [with whom] we shared all of these things… during our careers. It was a tough moment, but I really hope that he’s very happy with this decision, and he’s able to do whatever he wants.

Rafa maybe you can offer a position at your Academy for David to be a Coach for the new ones playing. That way he can still have his hand in Tennis and you guys can see one another allot more It is so sad to see him Retire I always loved watching him play. He was my second favorite player and you of course are my first. So happy for him and for you. Stay Happy and Healthy

I was privileged to be in Barcelona yesterday to see David play Rafa in his last match there . It was very emotional to see this great warrior and contributor bid farewell .
He got a wonderful reception . He left his headband in the court . What s moment .
Rafa was emotional as he said farewell to ama team mate, an opponent but above all , a friend. Rafa left the court to David , he fidnt go back on court following his victory , once more showing his sensitivity and class.
Two wonderful ambassadors for tennis and sport in general .
Many great memories of David and Rafa , particularly the Davis Cup Final in Seville v Argentina and in Valencia last year . They both epitomise all that is great about sport .

Great to see both warriors doing battle. Rafa was certainly more energized than in his previous match, making much less errors and Daveed fought right to the end.
I think Daveed has done Rafa a favour by bringing out of him better tennis today.
I’ve loved watching Daveed over the years. He’s so humble and a shining example of how to maximise your potential with hard work, grit and determination. I wish him all the very best for the future.
Wow, I am going to miss David Ferrer, such a spunky, driven, fierce competitor and great player.. He also has that point-by-point mentality as Rafa. The closeness of these players is so touching. I loved when David dropped his headband on the court. So glad to see his wife with his beautiful son, Leo watching this special match between him and Rafa. I look forward to seeing David play his last tournament in Madrid.

Typical Rafa, he didn’t even do his little victory arm raise out on the court after the match out of respect for David. Such a gentleman, David as well of course. Loved the headband on the court left by David.

I wonder how Rafa would have felt had he lost. I think he would have been very happy for David [but inside, pissed he lost].

After he retires, David said he plans to spend at least a year with his family enjoying his baby. Then he may decide to either coach or teach the teen set. Best to David, a sweetie.
