Rafa has enjoyed plenty of success at this event, having won three times (2007, 2009, 2013) and finished runner-up in 2011. While some people refer to this tournament as “the fifth Grand Slam,” Rafa said he believes the rich history of the event is worthy of being recognised on its own.

“This tournament is important enough to stand on its own name,” said Rafa. “I love not being in a big city and the calm we have out here in the desert. I love the views and the organisation here is one of the best.”

Five Rafa Stats From Indian Wells:

First Match: 2004, Nadal def. Lars Burgsmuller 6-2, 6-3

First Title: 2007, Nadal def. Novak Djokovic 6-2, 7-5

Record: 50-10

Top 10 record : 9-6

6-0 Sets Won: 5

In Rafa’s three victories at the ATP Masters 1000 event, he has lost a combined three sets. The first time he lifted the trophy in the desert, in 2007, Rafa did not drop a set.

Indian Wells is one of three Masters 1000 events at which Rafa has won 50 matches. Rafa, who holds a 50-10 record at the BNP Paribas Open, owns 68 wins in Monte-Carlo and 56 in Rome.

GOOD LUCK & VAMOS RAFA!

    • Margo is correct below that there are always three hours difference between the East Coast and California. The mistake that I was pointing out was the 9:00 pm EST instead of EDT. It is a very common error. Many in the press just use ET or PT and avoid having to switch back and forth. What is important is that Rafa play well and stay healthy. A tournament without Rafa is a day without sunshine.

      • YIKES, now I’m really flummoxed. LOL

You’ve got that right…give us some sunshine.

        RAFA ROCKS

  2. Vamos Rafa ! time to start a new winning streak . I’m also pleased Kygious lost to Kohlschreiber , That’s definitely one less Rafa nemises to get through .

    • Kyrgios showed yesterday that he is wildly inconsistent. He was not interested in playing well. Nick, however, was in Djokovic’s half of the draw. He would have had to reach the final to play against Rafa. He might have given Novak more of a test than Kohli.

    • Yep–I was glad to hear that Kyrios went down (and I saw he smashed his racket when he lost–so typical of him). Rafa’s right–Kyrios has no respect for the game, nor for himself or his opponent. Vamos Rafa!

  3. I hadn’t realised Daylight Savings started today in the US, so thanks for posting the times RNF!

    Vamos Rafa!!!!

    • It is true that Daylight Savings Time started today in the US, but not in other countries. The time in this notice is incorrect in that it should be 9:00 pm EDT. I really hope that Rafa will play well. He loves this tournament and Larry Ellison is a huge Rafa fan.

      • va4favre, It can become confusing. The time is correct for local and NY ties. Indian Wells is in California, Pacific Time, 3 hours behind NY, always.

I wish he hadn’t said “I love NOT being in a big city.” I hope the media doesn’t pick up on this for the tournaments held in a big city😬

        RAFA ROCKS

      • Rafa has nice things to say about the locations of most tournaments. He LOVES Madrid, Paris, Wimbledon, Melbourne, New York, Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Acapulco, Rome and many others, I’m sure. Cincinnati (Mason) might be an exception though! Rafa possesses a rare ability to enjoy most experiences, always looking for the positives.

      • Yes, that was my point. He loves every tournament when he is there. But most are in a “big city.”

        RAFA ROCKS
