Rafael Nadal shares thoughts before heading to Acapulco [VIDEO]

Rafael Nadal will arrive in Acapulco a week before the tournaments starts so he will have enough time to adjust to the courts and be fully prepared to face new challenges. Our champ is very happy with the start of the season despite not being able to finish in Abu Dhabi and withdrawing from Brisbane Tennis International. Even the things didn’t go as he wanted in the Australian Open final against Novak Djokovic, Rafa says there are always some things to be satisfied with.

I wonder if he is signaling his imminent retirement. He is personally involved with his philanthropic projects in South Africa and Switzerland. Then there’s his annual team tournament. Last but not least, he has two sets of twins. I’m exhausted just writing this stuff.

    • I think Roger is “signalling” that he wants to raise his ranking. A bucketful of points is available to him at Madrid and RG since he hasn’t played either in years. I doubt he expects to win but even quarterfinals should help.

  2. Rafa’s friend and compatriot, David Ferrer, received a wild card invitation to the Mexico Open. He expressed to tournament director Raul Zurutuza, “I want to play my last international tournament at Acapulco.” Zurutuza was happy to oblige.

Tournament dates: Monday February 25-Saturday March 2.

“I want to thank my fellow players for selecting me to receive The Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award. It makes it that more special to have been voted by my peers and on-court rivals. I also want to thank my fans, who are always there to support me.”

  6. Remember Marco Checcinato who made a surprise showing at the Roland-Garros 2018 semifinals? He is the first Italian to be in the last four of a major since 1978.

He has just claimed his third ATP title, again on clay, at the Argentina Open vs Diego Schwartzman 6-1, 6-2 who beat Dominic Thiem 2-6, 6-4, 7[7]-6[5].

  7. Best of luck to Rafa in Acapulco. I hope he doesn’t spend too much time on promoting his newly-opened tennis center in Cancun.
