Andy Murray has been struggling with injuries, specifically his troublesome hip in the last few years, and now it seems the pain may be all too much.
I can’t even put my shoes or socks on without any pain. I have a severely damaged right hip, having the operation last year was to give it the best possible chance of being better. I said to my team, look I think I can get through this until Wimbledon. That’s where I’d like to stop playing, but I’m also not certain I’m able to do that.
Just like many other players Rafael Nadal also had kind words to say about Murray in the wake of his tearful press conference.

Our hearts ached for you seeing your heartbreaking announcement. You are a great sportsman, a credit to your sport and our Country. Hoping you are well enough for Wimbledon this year. But no matter what happens you are a hero of a sportsman. Good luck to you and your family. We will miss watching your tennis matches
So sad about Andy, but there’s no sense playing on if he’s in pain. It’s very upsetting to see anyone’s career cut short by injury 🙁 .
Murray will be missed on the tour. Wish him all the best in the future. Health is the most important thing.
