Rafael Nadal has added Tomeu Salvà to his coaching team ahead of the 2019 season. He will work together with Carlos Moya and Francis Roig.
“At first it was very strange to me because Rafa is my best friend, he is like my brother, we are from the same village, we have been playing and training since we were little kids… But with time I get used to this role as a coach,” Salva told Marca.
“But in terms of injuries it has been a bad year. That forces us to look for solutions. You have to change things. Training systems, for example, or the frequency of those workouts. We have to find the key so that this year will not happen again.”
“We are looking at the time Rafa spends training and managing his calendar in detail.
“In good health, Rafa should play 14 or 15 tournaments, no more. Compressing his schedule further seems impossible to me.”

With the 2019 Laver Cup already picking up hype—largely because Federer and Nadal will be playing on the same team—now is the perfect time to take a look back at their historic rivalry, from their first match to their head-to-head stats (SPOILER: Nadal has a lead over Federer in most categories). See how much you know about their rivalry and friendship.
“It is a big help from a very special person, someone who shows his love for our land and its neighbours every day,” said Mateu Puigròs, mayor of Sant Llorenç, in an open letter. “He shows his love for his homeland wherever he goes and he shows it in all aspects because he is one of us.”
The donation is the latest way Nadal has helped those affected. Nadal also went to the damaged area right after the tragedy to assist in the clean-up efforts in the neighborhood. He also made available the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar for those seeking shelter, and held a moment of silence with students and staff at his academy to honour those who passed away.
“We know of his immense affection and humanity, which is as great as his talent and results. We have seen this on and off the court,” Puigros wrote in the open letter.
