  1. We had the great *privilege* to be there in person. England were playing the football so Centre Court return tickets became available. We got in for sets 3 – 5.

It was an honour to witness these gladiators battling at the highest level. The speed and depth and sound of the balls in real life is astonishing. How either of them get a racquet on them – let alone craft winners from them – is extraordinary.

The crowd were roaring for both players. The atmosphere was lit. Personally, I reserved my roars for Rafa – but the valour and skill of Delpo had to be respected and acknowledged. When Rafa went to hug him at the end, I just burst into tears, through joy, and appreciation, and sadness, and relief, and gratitude to both.

Rafa clearly felt the depth of affection from his supporters. As a top athlete, it would be impossible to stop and thank every person for their encouragement. But he seemed genuinely moved and grateful; like every person made a difference.

Very, very well done, Rafa. England loves you!

    • Alex, Lucky you and thank you for sharing this with us. I cheer for Delpo except when he plays Rafa. There were lots of wet eyes in the end. I did think the crowd wanted Rafa to win, but were fair to both players. I am worried about Friday, but I will not think about it until then. Rafa just does not give up.

      • Alex you sound as if you really enjoyed the depth of that experience – that is something that I’m sure you will never forget.

      • I think that if Rafa plays his best on Friday, he will beat Djoker by frustrating him – maybe quite quickly. If he doesn’t play his best, then there’ll be a long scrap, which could go either way…but probably Djoker’s (based on preceding match lengths, and Djoker’s recent ability to find his groove when it matters). So, basically, Rafa has to play lights out to win; be offensive from the start, take advantage of Djoker’s wobbles, and *keep his first serves sharp*. As much as it counts, I think the neutrals in the crowd will be with Rafa, based on what I’ve seen/heard this tournament.

  10. Wow, this qtr-final has to be the most epic match of 2018 to date. I was left breathless after every shot, retrieval, tumble, somersault by both Rafa and Juan Martin. Both were herculean in their efforts and responses to overcome the other. Congrats to Rafa for finally overcoming such a super-worthy opponent. I almost wished there could be 2 winners in this match but of course thrilled Rafa finally pervailed to advance to the semi-finals after several years.

Juan Martin will have plenty of opportunities the way he competes and plays with such heart and passion just like Rafa. It is such a pleasure and priviledge to watch these 2 amazing competitors. I truly love these guys.
