PHOTOS: Rafael Nadal beats Alex De Minaur to advance at 2018 Wimbledon

World No. 1 Rafael Nadal is safely into the fourth round of Wimbledon 2018 after victory over Australian teenager Alex De Minaur in straight sets on Saturday, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4. It was Rafa’s 15th straight victory and his 31st in 33 total matches.

With today’s win Rafa guaranteed that he will remain atop the ATP Rankings when the next standings are published on 16 July.

After the match, Rafa said:

A positive match against a player with a lot of energy, some tough moments.

Playing in front of very important people from sport around the world is always a big honour, we talk the same language and it’s great to have all these people.

I am just happy to be in the fourth round again. I’ll go and watch some football – England, it’s coming home or not?!

Our champ will play either Jiri Vesely or Fabio Fognini in the next round.

  3. Great play from Rafa. I think his game is coming along nicely on the grass:)

Keep it up champ. Sterner tests are lining up for you ahead.

  4. Rafa was asked about Sergio Garcia being there to watch him play when he made the comment above. Sergio loves to watch tennis and is a good friend of Rafa’s. I thought Rafa played well overall. It is hard to maintain an edge against a weaker opponent. I never get overconfident, but I never thought Rafa would lose today. I am pleased that Rafa will stay number one through Wimbledon. Of course, it is being number one at year end that counts. Doesn’t Rafa play Monday next?

    • Yes. All the 4th-round matches are played on Monday.

Rafa played a great match. I noticed that he used more slicing both in return and in rally (to set up for the FHDL), very effective!

Rest well, best of luck on Monday!

  5. Get your text edited, you’re getting sloppy. Both day and score wrong on this post.
