PHOTOS: Rafael Nadal stopped by rain against Diego Schwartzman at French Open

(AFP) – Rafael Nadal was locked in a French Open quarter-final tussle with Argentinian Diego Schwartzman when rain ended play on Wednesday.

Our champ lost his first set at Roland Garros in three years, and when bad weather first interrupted the match the 10-time champion was in serious trouble with Schwartzman up a break in the second.

The players briefly returned to the court, giving the 32-year-old Spaniard enough time to reel off three straight games, but the rains came again for a second and final time when he was serving for the set.

The match will resume on Thursday with Schwartzman leading 6-4, 3-5 (15-30).

Also, it seems like Rafa’s decision to have his wrists taped between the first and second sets was not because of any injury, but instead to stop his sweat dripping on to the handle of his racket.

  1. Yay! Rafa has done it within the 2 hours I gave him:) Great response from our champ! Lovely smiles at the net in the end from both.

And I’m off! I hope Cilic and Delpo tire each other out in 5 sets, with Delpo coming out on top 🙂

    Thank you Rafa!

  2. Rafa has now, miraculously (thank god for the rain) taken a 2-1 set lead. If there is one thing clear, it’s that Rafa needs to play offensive tennis to win RG. This is how he won last year, not doing that is why he lost in 2015 and that’s how he played before the rain yesterday. He has to go all out, if he wants to stand a chance against Cilic, Delpo or Thiem, that’s crucial!

  3. Stay focused Rafa. Don’t allow Diego to dig his heels in like he did with Anderson. The danger is not over.

  4. YES! Rafa is playing quicker and with more intensity. Looks like normal service is resumed. Keep your up the pressure Rafa!

  5. Rafa is now playing like Rafa. Great to see! Keep it going champ. Break him and break him and break him!
