Roland Garros R4: What time does Rafael Nadal play against Maximilian Marterer?

On Monday, Rafael Nadal’s French Open campaign will continue as he will play his fourth round match in Paris. He will face 22-year-old Maxmilian Marterer (ranked No. 70).

A 12th quarter-final appearance is at stake for our champ.

Date: June 4, 2018

Match time: Rafa is second match on Court Philippe-Chatrier, meaning that he should be in action sometime around 1 PM local time / 7 AM EDT – New York, Montreal / noon BST – United Kingdom / 1 PM CET – Spain, France, Germany, Italy / 9 PM AEST – Melbourne. To convert to your local time, use this website.

The 22-year-old German and our champ have never faced off professionally. Marterer said he was Rafa’s sparring partner at Roland Garros a few years ago, but our champ said that he doesn’t remember him.

No, I don’t remember him from then.

But what I know is he’s a player who is playing well, and as I said, when he played Zverev in the first round in Munich, he lost it, but he was very good. The other day here against Shapovalov, he was playing at a very high level. It’s always difficult to play Shapovalov. So he’s a difficult opponent.

But obviously this is a round where it’s getting very difficult. Whatever the round, it’s going to be difficult.

Rafa is a perfect 17-0 against German opponents on clay. He has lost just two sets in total – to Daniel Brands at Roland Garros in 2013 and to Alexander Zverev two weeks ago in Rome.

GOOD LUCK & VAMOS RAFA!

  4. The Gathering of Evil Clouds of 2009

I received a frantic call last night from good, old Aunt Maria as I almost suffered a hear attack
‘’Come over, come over!!!’’, she shouted over the phone. ‘’It’s barely 7am, Aunt Maria….I’m barely out of my pajamas’. Do you mean now?’’ I pleaded. ‘’N-O-W. damn it – NOW!!!’’ she blasted away.

Within the next 20 or so mins, I was seated heart pounding in my mouth in front of the old woman. My mind hazily drifted to the last time she frantically called me like this before – yes, I remember that was on the eve of Nadal’s match with Fernando Verdasco at the AO…my recollection was cut short by Felix the cat who suddenly jumped into Aunt Maria’s laps.

She then looked up with tears in her eyes as she stared at me: ‘’The numbers are not good for tomorrow, there is an evil gathering of clouds of 2009’’

‘’Aunt, honestly, I don’t understand what you’re saying,
    …’’
‘’Ofcourse, you won’t understand, would you/’’ She stood up abruptly as she threw Felix on the floor. ‘’Look at the numbers, hey, look’’ as she pointed at the wall. Tried as I dis, I could not see anything. ‘’Look again!!!’’ she commanded as she now held me almost suffocatingly by the neck and my chin while pointing to some esoteric writings (almost like hieroglyphics of old) etched on the far-away wall. It was then that I saw what she saw:

    1. Nadal lost to Robin Soderling on May 31, 2009. Nadal’s match against Maximillian Marterer is billed for June 4, 2018. (Now 31 gives 4 when you add 3 + 1 which is the same as June 4. Also, 2009 gives 2 when you add up 2+0+0+9; the same way 2018 gives 2 when you add 2+0+0+9 =11 = 1+ 1=2)

    2. In 2009 the loss to Robin Soderling came in R16; tomorrow’s match with Marterer is also R16!

    3. In 2009 before defeating Nadal, Robin Soderling met and defeated Dennis Istomin IN r2; Before Marterer’s match with Nadal tomorrow, Marterer has also met and defeated a Dennis – this time Dennis Shapovalov and in the same R2!!!

I almost collapsed, but Aunt Maria held on fast to me by doing as if she was hugging me as she quietly whispered to my ears,’’Oue sera sera, boy. What will be, will surely be. The evil clouds of 2009 are set and there is nothing anybody can do’’

    • I hope your aunt is wrong Maria (Siberia) but I have to say great piece , it was like reading a good novel , you have found your calling Lol

    • Maria snake island – that was hilarious but I truly hope Aunt Maria was having ‘an episode’ and that none of this comes to pass. Excellent story though

    • Hey (Maria Snake Island),

I rmb you were saying that your aunt said that Rafa would have a high chance of winning the remaining slams, including Wimbledon where you trembled asking if Wimbledon is included.

Let’s hope Rafa make this through !

  6. Dear RNF,

Your posts are so good, but you are getting sloppy with your intros. The other day your intro said Rafa was second match on, when he was fourth. Today, your intro says Saturday, instead of Monday.

Don’t let your high standards down, please edit more carefully.

    • EVERYBODY MAKES MISTAKES……NO BIG DEAL……GRATEFUL FOR ALL THE SITE MANAGING, EDITING, PHOTOS AND CLIPS ETC….. : )

    • Michele, I think these are new owners of the site. Standards have been lowered. New owners seeking to make money with all the ads here. Maybe someone else has a better explanation.

  7. Rafa is always wary of players he comes up against for the first time and he won’t be taking anything for granted. I’m sure he and his team will have done their homework on Marterer. Go book your place in the quarters champ!

    • I wish Rafa did not encourage his opponents by implying they could beat him. His humbleness is at times exxagerated.

Wamos Rafa, you are the best.

  8. Suerte Rafa para mañana…sigue tu linea..juegas con un juguador k viene jugando bien y tu quizas hayas jugado poco veces con el…adelante!!!
