PHOTOS: Rafael Nadal storms into French Open fourth round

Ten-time champion Rafael Nadal is through to the fourth round at the French Open after a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 win over No. 27 seed Richard Gasquet. He has now defeated the 31-year-old Frenchman in each of their 16 meetings. The match lasted one hour, 58 minutes as Rafa scored his record 81st career victory on the terre battue in Paris.

Rafa has now won his past 34 completed sets at French Open, breaking his own personal best of 32 in a row from 2007-09.

After the match, our champ had a quick knock around with a ballboy, who is a Rafa megafan. As one rally came to an end, our champ requested more balls. High-fives were all-round at the end of what must have been a brilliant experience for that young man.

In Monday’s fourth round match, Rafa will play No. 70-ranked Maximilian Marterer of Germany.

  3. Rafa, I always like you to win big, but I did not mind Gasquet winning a couple games. He is a really nice guy and a long time friend of yours. Have a wonderful birthday even though you will celebrate later. What a special person you are. I love how you treat everyone with kindness and respect.

  5. I really like Gasquet, so i’m glad he didn’t get bageled, especially in front of his home crowd. The inevitable happened as Rafa did what he had to do without expending too much energy. Good job champ!
