On Thursday, ten-time champion Rafael Nadal continues his Roland Garros campaign with a second round match against Argentina’s Guido Pella, who beat Joao Sousa 6-2, 6-3, 6-4. Our champ won their only match in straight sets at the 2017 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

Rafa on paying Pella:
Well, he’s left-handed. He won against Sousa. It’s going to be a difficult match.
I have to be prepared to play very strongly, very aggressively, and I hope that I will be able to move on the next day knowing that it’s going to be a tough match.
But I will try to be aggressive and performing as I was with the important shots as today.
Pella on playing Rafa:
I do not have pressure there. The problem is when one is comfortable and has pressure to win.
Whatever happens, nobody expects me to win Nadal, nobody expects anything from me in that game.
Against Nadal I’m going to try to do different things, to be uncomfortable, even if it’s not in my playing pattern to do them, because I know it’s the only chance I have to make a difference, because to pass balls I will not win or if I I’m not going to win.
Rafa is bidding to become only the 2nd player in history to win 11 singles titles at any Grand Slam event after Margaret Court, who won the Australian Open on 11 occasions in 1960-66, 1969-71, and 1973.

A Rafan was complaining on twitter that they came from the US having bought a ticket for PC. SL is apparently a separate ticket. Was looking to exchange. Luckily they posted that they got to see Rafa practice and close up afterwards so were very happy!

Rafa usually plays at least once on Lenglen. Rafa is very diplomatic and says he likes the court. The good news is that Rafa is undefeated on this court. His two losses came on Chatrier.
All top players have to play at least one match on Court Suzanne Lenglen. Those are the rules of the tournament. Why would you turn that into something negative?
Look Federer at Wimbledon. For years he plays always at CC and not Court 1.
