  4. Rafa does it in straight sets – not his best performance but we mustn’t have him peaking too soon. Hope he is rested enough for tomorrow as he is playing again.

  7. I was on Philippe Chatrier court yesterday watching Rafa play. Everyone was eagerly awaiting him and the atmosphere was electric when he walked on to court. However, the match never really got iinto top gear. I don’t think Rafa wanted to expend too much energy, given that it was a first round match, but all credit to Bolleli for taking it to Rafa who started slowly. The rain started to fall quite heavily in the third set and I was surprised that they stayed on court for so long as the conditions got very heavy and it felt cold. I think this attributed to Rafa losing his serve. Having said this, Rafa’s serve is vulnerable and it’s something he needs to improve moving forward.

    I have the privilege of being on PC again today to see Rafa finish his match, but to be honest, I was hoping for him to come away with a straight sets victory yesterday. It seems that Bolelli has other ideas and proved that this time he is no easy push over. Come on Rafa don’t hang around and get the job done!

    • Glad you got to see Rafa, Lorna.

      By all accounts, Rafa was the one who wanted to keep playing so he could end the match, many thought. In the third set he seemed to be rushing things until it was impossible to continue play. That could explain his 0-3 deficit. The rest is history. Another win for our defending champion.
