I couldn’t watch live as it coincided with my journey to work but I was so happy and relieved to follow those scores! Just watched the replay. Rafa looks amazing in the grey/pink sleeveless outfit. I’ve seen comments elsewhere saying he shouldn’t wear it anymore and the colours looked like Nike had dressed him as a Liquorice Allsort… I think it works though, and not just in a nostalgic way. He looks young and strong and stylish and relevant. And also just natural and totally Rafa 🙂
This was a great match to watch, beyond Rafa looking in good shape (I was so afraid he wouldn’t even start the tourney). It was entertaining and good-humoured with some great tennis. Apparently Victor promised to ‘get his kit off’ (except the shorts!) if he won, and even though he didn’t get the chance, I’d guess that breaking Rafa’s serve probably made his day, at the very least 🙂 The exchange at the net between him and Rafa was so lovely.
A great start for Rafa. I thought he would look more nervous than he did, given the lack of preparation etc. It will get more difficult from now on, but hopefully this opening match will have given him even more confidence. Vamos Rafa!!
Watched the match & Rafa’s gesture in handling Burgos after just melted my heart…what true champion & true gentlemen. This is why by far he is my favorite player of any sport. Can’t wait for his next match.
“…It’s not if you win or lose, but how you play the game”, from ‘IF’ by Rudyard Kipling. Both Nadal and Burgos showed the epitome of good sportsmanship. For this reason I am a Nadal fan – even at my age.
This is why Rafa is 1 of the all time greats in tennis he respects all his opponents and always appreciates the hard work they have put in to try and beat him . This is why I have been a fan for 15yrs he has no arrogance just sheer sportsmanship
