  1. So happy for Rafa, his best tennis for some time, strong, confident and so focused. Competitive first set, but he knocked the steam out of Dominic Theim after that. He knows that he is playing so well. lovely speech afterwards, Dominic said very nice words too.
    I hope that he rests now and keeps healthy. How great is it to see Rafa enjoying tennis and winning back to back tenth titles in Monte Carlo and Barcelona.

  2. Rafa played a wonderful game to win the decima . His court coverage was that of a much younger Rafa and some of his shots were unbelievable.
    What really impressed me was the way he celebrated the win with the crowd. No chest beating ,no pointing to himself,, no bowing to the crowd with his hand over his heart or similar histrionics as displayed by “you know who” but just raised his arms in victory, applauded the crowd and sat down.
    Some years ago he used to throw himself on to the clay in victory and ended up covered in red dirt but he has evidently decided this is not a very becoming look when he steps onto the podium.
    Rafa personifies every thing a champion should be – a terrific sportsman, modest in victory and dignified in defeat, a role model for the young, honest and very, very dedicated.
    Rafa I am your fan forever , however long forever may be to an 83 old. I am sure the joy of following your great career is helping to keep me young.even through all the tough times as well as the glories.!!

    • LOL Funny you mentioned “throw himself on the clay.” I was surprised when he didn’t do it. Were you able to fling your arms in enjoyment for his win?

  3. This was a true beatdown of Thiem by Rafa. Rafa got to Thiem’s shots, then got inside his head, and Thiem was another man who “bit the dust”.

    In winning La Decima at Barcelona, Rafa all but decima’ted Thiem’s claim to be the next “King of Clay”.

      Indeed, you put it so much better than I. Rafa figured it out in the first set [got DT’s shots, AND inside his head] and the second was a resounding beatdown.

I’ve been thinking, and of course I could be wrong, but by looking at Rafa’s schedule I am hypothesizing that Rafa is going for a Masters-Clay Slam; Monte-Carlo [Won]; Madrid [next week]; Rome [ May 10-21]. Then on to a Grand Slam, the French Open. I wonder if Rafa feels a clay slam is more important than the FO, or as I am guessing he may give them equal billing [clay slam+FO]. Your thoughts, anyone?

    I am still searching to see if he already has done the above. Not too proud to say I’m still learning about Rafa.
