  5. Rafa got better results in this match against Sock than he did in his two previous wins against him even although Sock has improved since then.
    I was worried about this match but Rafa was very determined and focused. Hopefully he will keep this up against Fognini who is playing well but his victory against Nishikori was in part due to Nishikori having physical problems.
    We could be heading for another Fedal final but as Rafa says, one match at a time, so I must keep that in mind and not get ahead of myself/

    • Beverly, I was feeling down after the IW loss but when I heard Rafa said he’s confident he’s gonna play well at Miami, I took his word for it.

      Playing well is a relative term. No one can play his best tennis every match. But if he can play just well enough to win each match, that’s well enough.

      So even when he’s getting bageled in the Kohlschreiber match and I was so shocked, I still absolutely believed he’s gonna make a comeback. And boy he did!

      That’s Rafa for you.

      Now he’s going to treat the SF *extremely* careful. Unless he’s so unlucky, he’ll at least reach the final.

  7. Skysports 1 is showing the hightlights from the Rafa vs Fed Miami 2005 final. Are they assuming another Fedal is around the corner?

    Fed is screaming out of frustration LOL. He also smashed his racquet in this match.

    • He knew he had to stay focused. This is the first time in a long time that I just knew Rafa would win. I am with him on his journey “to create pain,” for his opponent.

  12. Rafa you played magnificently👏i wasn’t expecting it to be so easy . You washed the sock and hung him out to dry . Good luck tomorrow against Fabio , just repeat today’s performance and you will have no problems . Will be watching Roger’s match tonight (9pm) to see who will be joining you. Susie hope you’re conference goes well and will speak to you and Vy later.

    • I doubt very much that Fabio will be a tricky opponent for Rafa. The three times he beat Rafa were during Rafa’s darkest professional year, 2015. Fabio’s post Nishikori interview was spoken quite well. I didn’t have to go and find it on the Internet to replay for comprehension.

      As to their friendship, this is what Rafa has to say, “But he is my friend, I know him well, and I know he is a very good guy. I am sad that many people don’t like him.”

      Fognini’s outburst, to which you alluded in a previous comment, occurred toward the end of his losing 2015 Hamburg Open. At his presser, Rafa praised Fabio as “one of the best players.” He had just won the tournament and it is doubtful he was thinking about Fabio.

      I expect Rafa to win but in straights.
