  1. Beverley… I was listening to Jim Couier talking about Nick kyrgios… He stated that Nick is a huge rock star in Australia, that he is in newspapers, Magazines and in the news daily. All eyes are on Nick to become the next Aussie tennis star. Although I know his antics irritate people, I do see the star power in him… He is hugely popular with the fans and he has an all around great game..he is also quite the showman as well! Is there any part of you that feels Nick will eventually mature and become a great tennis star? When I hear people talk about how awful Nick & Barnard are … I flashback to John McEnroe! Although I did not care for tennis at the time( Rafa gave me my love for tennis)! I remember him being on the news all the time … He was volatile and totally out of control… Smashing his rackets, throwing his racket, smashing tables with debris flying everywhere, cursing at the chair umpires…he was horrible.I always wondered what people did with their children… Maybe they learned not to take them to a John McEnroe match. As much as I love Johnny Mac now as a commentator (He is always praising Rafa) He was nothing but an out of control jerk… Made me feel sorry for Tatum O’Neal! When I look back at it I wonder how he got away with that type of behavior! I don’t see any star power with Tomic …He just doesn’t care enough about tennis! Would love your opinion along with Shirley’s.

    • Yes, they are stars and their sponsors know they attract the segment of society these companies are looking to harness.

    • Sioux, I don’t agree with Jim Courier that Kyrgios is a great star in Australia and that he has a huge number of fans. Possibly among some of the young fans, they see him as exciting to watch but there are a lot in our country who are just disgusted with him.
Of course the tennis officials defend him and praise him for his talent ( which he certainly has lots of) because with the retirement of LLeyton Hewitt we need another “star”.
I would not be surprised if Kyrgios made the top 10 before too long but until he conducts himself in an acceptable manner I will always see him as a disgrace to tennis.
I recall the days of John McEnRoe and he was certainly a tennis brat but I don’t ever recall him using the gutter language that Kyrgios uses – he was mainly insulting the umpires and breaking tennis rackets but Kyrgios insults everyone, including the fans.
He also , in the middle of a match, shouted out to Wawrinka that another player ( a fellow Australian ) was sleeping with his girlfriend. McEnroe never stooped that low.
Time will tell I suppose. But until people stop defending his behaviour and saying he is “only young” there is little hope of him changing.
I recall the “only young” excuse applied to Tomic a couple of years ago but it was not his on court behaviour that was the main problem but his off court escapes.
I can see some hope for him, but Kyrgios,?? As Maria Siberia) would say – we will see.

      • Thank you Beverley… I was just wondering because I had read your posts along with Shirley’s …You both were in sync with your opinions of both of them. Jim courier made it sound like Nick was the it guy for Australia! Yes I hear that a lot…. They are just immature and they will grow out of it… I don’t find any excuse to lose control and smash a racket… Ryan Harrison of the United States loses control almost every match, the other day he smashed four rackets… It makes me not like him. I really feel that’s what so appealing about a our Rafa… He has such respect for the game and fans that we will never see him smash a racket or curse.( I think he cursed one time and got a warning But I didn’t hear it and I don’t think the fans heard it either) I just love that boy! I’m watching the Del Potro/ Dejokovic match … I’m waiting for Novak to smash his racket … he’s right at that boiling point! I have to disagree with you on one little issue Beverley… John McEnroe had a big time potty mouth… I would tell you to look it up but I wouldn’t want you to hear those nasty words… you’re way too sweet! I think it’s Wednesday in Australia so you have a good rest of the day and night… Thank you for answering my questions!

      • Beverley, I just got to read your comment about Kyrgios in its entirety. I remember that comment that Nick made. He was literally excoriated by both male and female players, and the press, if I recall correctly. Thank goodness he didn’t get a free pass because he was suspended and fined, I think with conditions unless I am confusing this incident with a subsequent imbroglio.

To say the least, his comment was shocking. And, in no way to attempt to lessen your displeasure, his comment referred to a prior liaison in which Stan’s g/f was involved in. A comment just as egregious, I would say.

Hopefully, the fines and suspension(s) will help to teach him what acceptable behavior is.

  2. OLA OL OLA OLA & VAMOS DEAR RAFA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) : ) : ) : ) Beautiful victory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR SOLID, MAGNIFICENT 2 SET win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) : ) : ) : ) VAMOS SWEETHEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : )

While you are sweating and earning your spot along many other TENNIS PLAYERS sweating the top mid day matches, old roger seems to be protected in the shade…..waiting for the cool temp to be showing up on the court……. Unbelievable that some are willing to keep this up over the years and still play along accepting all this subjective treatment. Seems pointless. I like roger, I like that he has a helped Rafa and others with their charities. He is a good guy and wish him and his family well wishes. On the other hand, as an avid Tennis fan of many many years, I find this rather DOWNRIGHT absurd. Out of respect and regard for other REAL TOP, hard working Tennis players, who are sweating it out, playing their hearts out giving it all, it seems something must be done to allow ALL PLAYERS take turn in receiving favorable competition conditions. Others have GENUINE COMPETITIONS UNDER EQUAL, FAIR CIRCUMSTANCES.
Back to our CHAMP: RAFA WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) YOU would never be willing to be so advantaged over other players in the tours over and over and over the years Your dedication to the sport, your popularity and your sportsmanship is highly regarded. YOU ARE THE REAL GOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) : ) : ) : ) : ) After all I trust players do full hardheadedly recognize their level, they do know when they are not UP TO PAR with top players in the tour.

Have a great evening dear Rafa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) Very happy for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) You are playing FANTASTIC MAGICAL TENNIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) YOUR SERVE IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) : ) : ) WELL AIMED & EFFECTIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) YOUR FEET & MOVEMENT STRONG & SPEEDY & COMMENDING!!!!!!! : ) YOUR BRIGHT RETURNS ARE MAKE MY HEART SMILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) Enjoy everything sweetheart & have a lovely night with THE TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) We love you and we love your genuine play, your genuine passion and your genuine efforts on the court. HATS OFF TO YOU CHAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) YOU ARE THE BEST SWEETHEART !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) Lots of love & happiness VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : )

  3. Let’s hope so Susie, I will record it as only Rafa could make me stay up to 2 am 🕑

  4. Maria I would so love to watch Delpo and novak live but alas I can’t due to work tomorrow. However I wish Delpo all the luck in the world and despite his last very recent loss to novak, Delpo beat him fair and square in two big events before that. So Delpo has novak’s number!!!!

  5. Congratulations to Rafa on his straight sets win against Verdasco. He seems to be coping well with heat but it must be very draining.
It will be interesting to see if he gets a night match against Federer since Fed has drawn all night matches so far.

    • I absolutely have no doubt that if they meet (and they will), it’s definitely going to be a night match. But I’d be happy if it’s not!

Btw Fed is not playing night match today. ~4:15 local time. Don’t think there will be another upset this time.

      • Ahhh….almost interpreted your comment. You want Roger to play in the sun, not that you don’t want Rafa to play in cooler temps. Cool post!

        RAFA ROCKS

  6. OOH YESS SWEET RAFA!! ❤️ Congratulations with your great win 🤗
All the best of luck at your next match 😘🍀

  7. Well played rafa well played. Despite a little worry at the start of the 2nd set – you still did it. And 50 career matches won at Indian Wells to boot.

  8. Well-done Rafa, I don’t think you’re place in the next round was ever under any threat ,good job. Good luck to Del Potro for your match in the early hours of Wednesday morning UK time ( one for the record button I think ) . Send the number 2 packing. Taxis for Novak please🚕

    • Ha,ha,ha!!!!! Very funny, Maria. Very funny.
But sadly, I can see the Djoker winning again.

      But as always, we;d see……………hmnnn

      • Maria ( Siberia), you never know , this year’s so far has thrown a few spanners in the works . But if Novak does succeed when he comes up against Rafa his deck of cards will fall as he is the (D)Joker but Rafa is the king

  9. GOODNESS GRACIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) : ) : ) : ) So well deserved leading 6: 5 bambino !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) LETS HO RAFA LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) VAMOS SWEETHEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) You are playing beautifully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) LOVE WATCHING YOU PLAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) : ) : ) : ) VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : )
