WATCH: Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer heap praise on Serena Williams

Serena Williams recently said that she didn’t want the word “female” thrown around when considering her greatness and what she’s done for tennis and sports in general— regardless of her gender. Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and many other stars definitely agree with her and have only nice words about her!

  1. I love tennis, and it’s great to see all the favorable commentary about our Serena Williams! (Of course, I also admire her sister, Venus.) The SISTERS have done us proud during their long careers!!! On the male side, my favorite, Rafael Nadal, still remains the favored one because of his unquestionable respect for ALL his opponents, his super talents, his hard work, and his astonishing record in the world of tennis! He is a gentleman tennis player, valuing family, friends, and country with equal zeal! VAMOS RAFA; ERES NUESTRO CAMPEON!!!!

  2. I was glad that my comment on September 1, about walkovers proved to be true, at least in this tournament. Nole, who hardly played during the beginning of the tourney, because of two walkovers and a retirement lost to Stan. Nole had spent about 7 hours v. Stan’s 20 on court before meeting for the final.

I won’t be cheering if Rafa is not able to get his “rhythm.”

  3. Contrary to what I used to think, I recently found out that the top players do not like walkovers at the beginning of a tournament. It seems that playing helps to get a player into a rhythm but a walkover just takes away from that. This now makes sense.

I can now better appreciate Rafa’s comments about getting better at playing as he goes deeper into a tournament. Who would have “thunk.” LOL

He looks refreshed, thrilled to be competing, and just so happy.

    RAFA ROCKS QUEENS

  4. Rafa will enjoy sitting down and watching your match later . Great results , your doing great and looking really fresh. Elizabeth Howard happy to see that Rafa made your lack of sleep well worth it ,lets hope his next match is at a decent hour no (as Rafa would say ) . 9. The gods are shining down on Novak and have given him a free pass to the next round after his opponent withdrew ,why couldn’t it have been Rafa. When are the rules going to be changed regarding the heat rule and the men given the same privilege as the woman. We have just witnessed Johanna Konta collapsing today because of the heat , at other tournament’s people just watching have been taken ill because of it but the men are expected to play for hours , it’s ridiculous .

  10. John Inverdale must be the most ignorant commentator ever, and God knows, there are plenty to choose from. Well said, Andy.

    • I remember the sexist Bartoli comment. I find him boring anyway – he sounds like he’s commentating the Chelsea Flower Show. Thanks goodness for American and Australian commentary!

  11. They are all champions and obviously hold each other in high esteem.

I just loved it when Andy corrected
BBC ‘s John Inverdale when he congratulated Andy. “You’re the first person ever to win two Olympic tennis gold medals. That’s an extraordinary feat, isn’t it.” Andy shot back, “I think Serena and Venus won four each.”

    • That was just pure class from Andy. Go Serena! Truly inspiring woman. She could win the US Open, Australian Open, French Open, then retire for 3 years, have 2 kids, and exit retirement to win another 5 slams over 3 years. That’ll give her 30 for her career. Because why not? This is Serena. Anything is possible. You’re welcome Nike:)
