In the absence of the injured Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka, 2008 Beijing gold medalist Rafael Nadal is seeded third for the men’s singles behind world number one Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

Rafa’s seeding means he cannot face Nole or Andy until at least the semifinals.

Kei Nishikori is fourth with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga fifth, while Gael Monfils, David Ferrer and David Goffin make up the top eight.

The draw for the singles and doubles should take place on Thursday morning at 11am, while the entries for the mixed doubles will be decided over the weekend.

Unlike at the grand slams, where there are 32 seeds in a 128-strong field, the Olympic singles tournament is a 64-man field featuring 16 seeds.

VAMOS RAFA!

  1. Support for you, Rafa. I wish for you warm sun, good air, lots of energy, quick-thinking, and light on your feet. GO GET ‘EM!

  2. The Spanish headline:
‘Nadalmania’ en las pista y en la villa Olimpica’.
As always Rafa underplays it – but he is basically being mobbed wherever he goes! Let’s hope it settles down so he can concentrate.

  3. Rafa it is VERY good news that you are going to play in the singles and doubles.

i am praying for continued healing and strength for your wrist,
and may God keep you strengthened throughout the games.

    Love and prayers,
