Rafael Nadal will not play at Wimbledon because of the wrist injury that forced him out of the French Open.

Our champion initially felt pain in his left wrist at the Madrid Open last month but it worsened at Roland Garros and he withdrew ahead of his third-round match.

Rafa wrote on his Facebook page:

Hi everybody. I’m sad to announce that after talking to my doctors, and receiving the results of my last medical revision, I won’t be able to play at Wimbledon this year.
As you can all imagine, it’s a very tough decision, but the injury I suffered at Roland Garros needs time to heal. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to join in the pre-tournament event The Boodles at Stoke Park‬ that I attended in previous years.
Thank you all for your support, especially my fans. Your kind messages mean so much to me.

  1. For anyone interested in an article (dated 2014) by The Sydney Morning Herald you can find it by Googling SMH+Dr Morgan+Rafael
Discussion about Rafa’s routines. I find what Toni said in this article contradictory to what he said in a more recent article.

  2. Unfortunately I think we have seen the best of Rafa… It’s heartbreaking but just don’t see him winning another slam, especially with the wrist Injury and his age. All we can do is cherish and remember the amazing tennis that he gave to all his fans and to the tennis world…he is a global icon and has a historical Illustrious Career .
I hope that I am wrong as Rafa Is the reason that I love tennis. I only had hoped that he would last a few more years…Vamos Rafa in what ever you do !

    • We DID see the best of him. BUT his career will be OVER when Rafa will say over. Maybe this will be tomorrow maybe it will be 3 years from now. Obviously he wont play till he is 35 years old , no matter how much Rafa wants to play till then.
BUt till he will be finished, his chances never be zero. I am not blind to think he has high hopes. BUt if the star allign right , he can pull it off. I didnt give hope that he will an French Open on last time, that would be a hell of goodbye.

    • I am still upset that Rafa was able to surpass Federer’s grandslam record. But he and Toni were a little stubborn to change coach for a less physical demanding style of play at that age so that he can avoid severe injuries.
So sad but i don’t think Rafa will be able to win another slam. A few Master 1000 on clay is acceptable to his health.

As for Novak, i never regard him as a great player cuz he has been waiting for Fedal to fall to achieve this much in this weak era.

  3. So sorry for Rafa since he was just looking wonderful until this injury. Hoping that he will be well enough to come to Toronto this year. I for one have missed him coming to the tournament in T. O. Get well soon Rafa, tennis is not the same without you.

  4. Triste pr rafa qu’ il ne soit pas présent à Wimbledon ! !!! Sans rafa le tennis n est plus vraiment du tennis !!!! Valls rafa 👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👕👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑

  5. At the risk of offending some fans, I must say that I think Nadal is done as far s tennis is concerned. Even if he plays competitively in the future-and I do not think he will-he MAY reach a GS semifinal and withdraw due to chronic injuries on his knees or his wrists. As his fans, we should be expecting an announcement pretty soon through which he will say that his tennis days are over and that he is done playing. We really need to remember him as who he was- a great tennis player.

    • It is pretty much the truth. I mean reporters have been visioned end of Rafa ‘s tennis career for 5 years. BUT No-one is sure when this will happen. Obviously it will happen before his 35th birthday . But it can happen tomorrow or it will be 3 years from now. I am not blindsided fan to think he has high hopes for another Grand Slam win but his chances arent zero . I dont give up hope yet that he will win a French trophy for last time

  6. Rafa and Fans: I too feel tennis is not the same without Rafa. Sorry to say, I too cannot watch Djokovic win, I did not watch the French Open Final because I knew he would win. I was so hoping Andy would somehow pull off the win. My opinion is that Djokovic got lucky at Rafa’s expense, because Rafa would have beaten him this year. I AM CERTAIN OF THAT. I hope and have prayed for Rafa’s wrist to heal completely. I want him to win another major. I know he is quite capable. So sorry for his injury. What a sad story for him at the French Open. Please heal

fast Rafa. God bless you. Love, Marylynn

  7. Rafa, I’m so glad you’re resting/healing your wrist injury, rather than risk further injury! You’ll be able to play for as long as you wish for having made thIs decision! I look forward to seeing you play when your wrist is strong and well again! VAMOS RAFA!!!

  8. Alright rafa ….ur health is more important than grandslams

Wishing u a speedy recovery and as ur doctor said u will be able play at olympics so that is great news for me

Actually one request to rafa from 2015 u r playing nonstop tennis and with the new kind of tennis of hard hitting, serves above 200, and bombarding shot making ….its time to choose wisely the tournament u play from now on

    Vamos rafa

  9. Missing Rafa will have to be content with his 1 minute advert for people wanting to book a place at his Tennis Academy ( for now).

  10. i expected him to withdraw , so i’m not surprised. I do hope he will recover for August and he can do well in the Olympics . My only problem is that Djoko mostly likely to win Wimby and that is why i cant watch tennis. . I love tennis and i can suffer through a GS without Rafa, but i cant watch Novak.

    • I have to agree . . . I guess I’m hoping that Roger will find a way to win. Without Rafa . . . tennis is not the same. Let’s hope he’ll be back for the U.S. Open.

  11. Dtpraying for you in olympi Rafa I am praying for a speedy recovery so we can see you back in action again. I’m sad for you that you have had to pull out of 2 tournaments but your health is the most important thing. Rafa I’m waiting for that lion inside you to roar & soon you will be holding your trophies aloft . Only you Rafa knows how to come back VAMOS

  13. In Rome 2016, Rafa was raising the momentum very well. He got the early break but eventually failed to play consistently in the last moment and got broken back.
Rafa’s game is really catched. Now he has to play 50-50 with Djoker, change the direction by his down the line shot to make Novak run for a weak reply. Whenever Rafa feels good with his down the line shot, he can still cause damage to Djoker. But you see, when you’re 30 it’s difficult to keep that level throughout a set!

That’s the reason why Rafa should consider hiring Andrei Agassi. Rafa is a right handed guy but his backhand is not really a “weapon”. He should upgrade his backhand to actually “attack” Djokovic’s forehand which is his only weakness. Rafa actually did that in the final set of the epic semi final in RG 2013. That would also save his knee from running so much for the forehand.

  14. I think everyone of these fans on this site was more than delighted when Rafa Won Monte Carlo and Barcelona… What a strange thing to say that we only post comments when he is Injured! We are all concerned and sad that he is out and sorry that our champ is not competing. Tennis without Rafa is no tennis for me…I did watch the final between Andy and Novak …but it was boring and one of the worse FO I have ever watched. I honestly think that Rafa had a real chance to win his 10 th RG if he didn’t get injured. All of his fans on this site are extreme fans and have invested years into him …we are also worried about his wrist and it is Consensus that we all want to be 100% healed before he returns. Vamos Rafa ,,, you are beloved … Especially on this site!

  15. So sad for Rafa that he cannot play, but he needs to rest that wrist so that he can attend the Olympics. He missed that opportunity the last time around and he doesn’t want to miss it this time as well. Vamos Rafa and may your health come back as soon as possible!

  16. Said to hear this crucial decision of rafa. Praying for him everyday. Good days ahead RAFA!!!!!!!!!!
