Rafa on playing Alexander Zverev:

He’s a clear possible future No. 1. He’s an amazing player. He has all the shots. It’s going to be a very tough match tomorrow for me, and I have to be ready to fight, to suffer, and to try to play aggressive. That’s what I’m going to try.

Zverev on Rafa:

Rafa, he’s one of the greatest in the sport ever, winning 14 slams. He’s probably one of the greatest fighters ever, so it would be a big honour to play against someone like him.

Rafa and Sascha have never faced each other on the ATP World Tour previously.

GOOD LUCK AND VAMOS RAFA!

  1. Rafa’s matches this week against Verdasco and Muller are two more glaring examples of him playing quite well in the 1st set, but then dropping off a cliff in the 2nd. Which proves once again that it’s NOT about confidence. If it was about confidence, his level of play would have risen instead of fallen after his high quality opening sets.

His real problem is a lack of COMMITMENT to playing aggressive, offensive, big boy tennis. He often has that commitment when he’s trailing on the scoreboard and his back is against the wall. But, when he’s up a set or two and has some breathing room, not so much. He then reverts to his comfort zone of playing passive, defensive, little boy tennis.

Uncle Toni lets him get away with that. A super-coach such as Andre Agassi, Ivan Lendl, Jimmy Connors, Mats Wilander or Gustavo Kuerten would not. Either he would follow their advice to play big boy tennis, or they would leave. And that, my dear friends, makes all the difference in the world.

  2. Yes, it will be a very tough match. But, Rafa you can outplay him with your years of experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your passing shot was on Fire yesterday against Verdasco. Hope its not windy and 90 degrees. That is your best climate. Try and not double fault. He has strong legs but yours are stronger. Get on that court and tell yourself ‘I can beat him”……..

Your devoted fan for many, many years Buffy from Arkansas USA.

  3. with that mindset of Rafa praising a 18 years old like he’s a champion, I don’t see Rafa to win the match. I hope I am wrong. he had 5 damn double faults in his match with verdasco.

  4. For once I hope Nadal steps on the court with the attitude of a 14 time major winner, saying ‘this is not gonna happen boy’, playing agressively, no weak looks towards the box, hitting hard and deep. No more p*ssy behaviour please. Nadal is not the youngster who is allowed to be insecure!

    • Sosa, you hit the nail on the head!
Apart from heaping unnecessary and excessive praises on opponents, why would any sane player reveal his/her match strategy to the whole world before the match?

Short and simple replies would have been enough. Something like ”I’d try my best” or ”It’s gonna be a tough match for sure. I hope to be ready for it”

As i’ve said severally, the entirety of Rafa’s personality encompassing his antediluvian team, anachronistic strategies and high-tension style has to be overhauled intoto.

      • why would he act like a gentleman, you mean? obviously you don’t have the brain power to think things through, try thinking deeper! O_O

  5. This will be a really tough match so Rafa needs to play his best tennis. I am pulling for him, of course.

  7. Uuh….., it is a tough match up for Rafa.
I see Rafa losing narrowly, but……we all need to pray hard so that our champion can triumph in this one. Yes, the vision is clearer now.

Rafa will win ONLY IF we all pray for him.

  8. Yes, once again, another challenge for Rafa but nothing he has not faced before as each opponent is a challenge so all the very best for tonight against a very talented contestant. Rafa can win this and we all know will do his very best as always. Vamos
