The big-serving Muller defeated Victor Estrella-Burgos 7-5, 6-3, firing 16 aces in the process. Muller has shown flashes of brilliance in four previous tour-level meetings with Rafa, pushing three of their past six sets to a tie-break and beating a 19-year-old Rafa at Wimbledon in 2005.

Our champ is set for his 12th appearance at the BNP Paribas Open. He was a champion in 2007 (d. Djokovic), 2009 (d. Murray) and 2013 (d. Del Potro).

GOOD LUCK & VAMOS RAFA!

  1. I thought Rafa played well in the doubles match last night, but he had 4 double faults I believe. His serving is still a concern. I hope he will win easily today. He needs to build his confidence.

PS. It is now EDT, daylight savings time. It started today in most places in the US.

  2. i’s gonna be a tough one!
Gilles Muller is a dangerously tricky guy and he has been kn ocking on Nadal’s door for some time now. I pray that our champion wins, but wont be surprised if something else happened.

    So, fingers crossed!

  3. youre simply the best for me.. win or loss, its my dream to watch you play , i miss the opportunity when you came to the phil last december . go go go!!! vamos!

  4. remember one thing rafa

when ur outside court respect every player whether he is no. 1 or no. 200

but when u enter the court get ur beast out …….try to win every point ………try to humiliate ur opponent by getting him unsettled by ur play

i don’t want to see rafa the cool, rafa the gentle guy on court but want to see a raging bull out there

u lost the fiery eyes and angry face with a opponent demolishing mode attitude …………i am missing that …..please bring back …………….doesn’t care of maturity etc

we all know u r a perfect gentleman outside court

  5. rafa in his doubles match double faulted on important points………….i mean common rafa still nerves ……….please work on serve

and on not so important moments please treat 2 nd serve as 1 st serve and go for it

    best luck ……vamos
