Reporter: Rafa when you guys are recovering from an injury, there’s things you can take to help speed up that recovery. Is there sometimes the temptation to take something and then how frustrating is it that you know there are things that can help you recover, but you just can’t take them?

Nadal: “You know what? I heard a few times again about doping from my people, and I’m a little bit tired with that. I really don’t know nothing about the doping. I’m a completely clean guy and I work so much all my career. When I get injured I get injured. I never take nothing to be back quicker. I never have any temptations to do something wrong. I believe in the sport. And in the values of the sport. The sport is an example for society, it’s an example for the kids and if I am doing something that goes against that I will be lying to myself. That would be something that would be really bad for me and I don’t have these values and I don’t have any temptation to do negative things.

“I am a fair player and I love the sport as a player as a competitor and as a follower. When something negative happens in the world of sport I am sad because the sport is an example for society and for kids in general, so stop with that please.”

“Rafael Nadal is one of the best athletes in world tennis history and in his long career has been subjected to countless doping tests that he has always passed successfully,” said a statement released by the Olympic body, reports Efe.

The COE said it “deeply regrets the unfortunate and unjustified statements of a person who, for the position she had held, should be aware that such accusations, because of the importance of them, must be grounded in evidence.”

Former French Minister for Health and Sport Roselyne Bachelot told French television on Thursday that Nadal’s seven-month injury hiatus in 2012 was “probably due to a positive doping test.”

Miguel Cardenal, the president of Spain’s Higher Sports Council, calls Bachelot’s accusations “slander of one of the most important athletes in history.”

Nadal’s coach and uncle, Toni Nadal, called Bachelot ”an imbecile,” according to Spanish media.

Upset by Roselyne Bachelot’s words, Guy Forget, tournament director, says: “Why raising suspicion against a tremendous champion? I think that it is worth recalling that the ITF is required to make public any positive cases, regardless of the level of the player involved, and we saw this week that even the top players aren’t being spared. Drumming up publicity is one thing, but there are limits, and making accusations without proof is a serious thing.

  1. He’s as honest an athlete there is. He has too much of a self-efacing personality to cheat. Personally I don’t see why taking something to speed up recovery is wrong anyway. Athletes are supposed to wreck their bodies but not aid recovery? Ridiculous!

  2. I AGREE WITH ALL ABOVE, SUE THAT WOMAN .THEN PERHAPS SHE WILL DO US ALL A FAVOUR AND GO AWAY , WE ALL LOVE AND RESPECT RAFA AND KNOW HE HAS AND WILL NEVER DO THIS AWFUL DRUG THING VAMOSS DARLING GO FOR IT BUT INJOY IT XXXXXXXXXXX

  3. I am really incensed about these accusations to a wonderful humble sportsman like Rafa, It is a case of sour grapes from much lesser opponents one in particular who comes from Belgium I think, he is so insignificant I have forgotton his name but I think his last name starts with an L That L for me is Rafa’s Largesse nobody will ever hold a candle to him and his brightness will shine as long as he plays tennis and thereafter.

  4. Its quite pathetic how those who can’t accept that Rafa is a natural and remarkable athlete will stoop to these lengths to discredit a 14-time GS winner, and possibly the greatest of gentlemen to grace tennis courts the world over.

  5. I too am so tired of the unproven accusations against Rafa or any player without proof. Socialmedia is wonderful, but it also allows for people to make baseless charges so easily and spread them far and wide. It is so unfair, but sadly a sign of our times. I only want Rafa to play well and stay health. I really hope he can regain his confidence since I believe many of his recent problems are mental.

  6. Rafa should put his money where his mouth is and sue this woman. If he has nothing to hide (which I believe) he should make them pay for it. Not Lance Armstrong style, but by really opening up and countering all slander.

  7. To all true fans of Rafa and Rafa himself, we all know that you are an outstanding sportsman of the highest degree and you would never and have never resorted to any kind of drug to enhance your performance in any way. All that is needed nowadays is more self belief in what you can achieve going foward and only you can bring that to the table, no new coaching is required just a few new tactics to adapt to your opponent’s game, they all have different styles and game plans and they all want to beat the best as you once did with Federer, so go all out for it Rafa. Vamos

  8. I’m a Rafa’s follower. Love his game, his attitude and to his tennis. I’ve. never doubt him and his commitment to the game, but I think it’s time for him to stand up and ask from those who accused him of cheating to prove their assertions. If he doesn’t there is going to be a cloud forever over him .

  9. Rafa is a Great Sportman in my personal opinion, without any needs, to play as well tennis as he always did, and continues nowadays giving all of us his extraordinay Demostration&Master´s Lessons at the same time, from The Canaries my best wishes and kindest regards, C. Javier – (P.S.- Please Rafa, when you´ll have little time, I´d mostly like to ask You for a possible job by your Tennis-School on Manacor, for a good football-player who is 23 years old, at Stegota F.C,. on South Africa, as he wants to move to Europe.) if you could do him this outstanding favour, he´ll appreciate that forever, and I´ll be most glad in order to help him, moving to Mallorca as his first destination, Many Thank´s therefore in advance.

  11. Frankly I am incensed with these wild stories and stupid questions. Looking back I think they were started by a number of people who could not accept that a new kid on the block upset their favourite!! I hope he sues that former Minister for Sport in France. That woman should apologise publicly and pay the price. Good to see that Roland Garros responded strongly. Rafa has a strong physique, similar to his uncle who played for Barcelona and Spain. The genes are good.

Rafael Nadal always comes across as a decent, honest and honourable human being, I stand by him and expect ATP to come out publicly in support. ATP usually sits on the fence.

I am aware of WADA rules and it is interesting to read that the chamber pod used by a prominent player is twice as effective as blood doping at helping the body to absorb oxygen. While technically legal , WADA says it contravenes the spirit of sport..
Maria Sharapova is the story and not Rafael Nadal. Maria was honest to admit, whether honest about why and how often is another story.

    All support for our champion

    • Well said Elizabeth..we all know which favourite !!..he’s never tested positive for anything ..leave the guy alone..he’s got enough to contend with..she should be made to apologise for her wild accusations With absolutely no proof!!!!

  12. Why do some try to falsely cast aspersions on Rafael Nadal .. a truly ethical, professional and model tennis champion? I have seen this over and over in life… it is as though they cannot stand to watch the world admire someone worthy of respect because they do not respect themselves. It goes back to what I was told at my mother’s knee, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”

I admire Rafa on so many levels and am amazed that he always remains a gentleman, even when the media tries to bring him down.

He is a rarity in our world and should be treated with love and respect.

  13. yes we are……..give this gentleman some free air to live and respect which he deserves

one must take utmost care while thinking also on this line

i hope this false rumors will a ignite a spark in rafa

    vamos rafa

  14. In undergoing surgery and after, some people get morphine, do they dope after recuperating? When recovering from an infection and the medication has been taken, do es one continue with the medication. Do you continue to take pain medication after the pain has gone. Look in the right direction, pleeeeease!!!

  15. I totally beleive in Rafa and always have he is a true and honest athlete and any rumours to the contrary should be treated as slander and as such persons doing this should be taken to court to account for their incorrect and slanderous comments
