Rafa talks about Paolo Lorenzi:

Paolo is a strong player and he had a great victory today. We’ll have an early afternoon start so it’ll be very warm. It’ll be a tough one.

Rafa, who is chasing this week his 48th career title on clay to move within one victory of Guillermo Vilas’ all-time record of 49, beat world No. 52 Lorenzi in three sets in their only previous meeting in 2011.

GOOD LUCK & VAMOS RAFA!

  1. Deep Thinker is right. Rafa was AWFUL in the 1st set, but played much better in the 2nd set. He’s still way too inconsistent to challenge Novak again. Still way too inconsistent to win slams again. Because he doesn’t understand WHY he’s so inconsistent. So he can’t fix it. Because he doesn’t have a REAL coach. He has his uncle, who’s an honorary coach, a nominal coach, a coach in name only.

    • Fantastic. You said it all, MIROMO, you said it all.
Rafa is now a certified B-level player and it will take a miracle from Heaven for him to successfully challenge Djokovic in the future.

Like I’ve said severally, Rafa is highly unlikely to win the FO again (well, except a mighty miracle happens, like the parting of the Red Sea into two for Moses’ Israelites to pass through.

The magic has left the Magician.

If Rafa is not willing to change his game nor replace Uncle Toni, then why cant he simply retire to a quiet life in Malloraca, marry Xisca, have beautiful kids (to tell the story of ONCE UPON A NADAL) and run his Tennis Academy. That way, he’d be able to save his legacy from further destruction by Djokovic & co. As it is, even without yet winning a FO title, Djokovic is already been tipped as the most likely GOAT. And this will become more of a reality should Djokovic go on and win the Djokoslam this year!

At best, Rafa will be remembered as the King of Clay. Not bad anyway.
