  1. A few days ago I watched Tennis Channel’s replay of Rafa’s 5-set win over Roger in the 2009 Australian Open final. Wow. It was like watching a totally different player and person than the current version. Rafa was 7 years younger then, but so much more poised, focused and mature than he is now. The countless rituals, superstitions and nervous ticks that we’ve grown accustomed to in recent years were few and far between back then. His ground-strokes were so much more consistent in terms of pace, elevation and depth – especially off the backhand wing – where he hit several clean winners on his return-of-serve. His down-the-line shots were a thing of beauty. His loopy forehand and sliced backhand were rarely seen. And perhaps most glaring of all the differences between now and then, he played his best tennis on the big points – saving most of the break points on his own serve, while converting most of the break points on Roger’s serve. Rafa at 29 versus Rafa at 22. No contest. The younger version was much better. When it should be the other way around. But I’m sure coaching has nothing to do with it. NOT!!!

  2. Here’s wishing a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to Rafa and his TRUE fans who want him to reach his FULL potential as a player and not settle for anything less. Also wishing in 2016 for the Spaniard’s groupies, sycophants, apologists and other PSEUDO fans to move on to a DIFFERENT teen idol website so that his REAL fans can have a serious uninterrupted discussion of his two-year on-court slump and what can be done to end it.

    • Wow, thumps up to you! This is vintage Move In Rafa or Move On!! This is the best piece ever from Move In Rafa or Move On. God bless you.

I simply love and admire the likes of myself and Move In Rafa or Move On who care less about whose ox is gored and simply say it as it is. Conscience is like an open wound; only the truth can heal it.

Personally, i think Rafa will do better than 2015, maybe win one more grand slam at the best, but we should not expect anything too spectacular from him. The magic (the motivation) has all but left the magician.

Out of the top 4 guys, Rafa incidentally is the only one planning and always talking of retirement.

      Sad.

      • Excellent point GT – Rafa is always talking about retirement while none of his peers do – even Roger, who’s 5 years older.

Someone else made a similar observation last summer when our favorite player made another early exit at Wimbledon: “Rafa acts like his career is over” ~ Pete Sampras

PS: Thanks for the compliment. I like your comments too. Don’t be a stranger.

  3. Merry Christmas to Rafa and his family and a Happy New year , also to Rafa ‘s true fans. Here’s hoping that 2016 will be a great year for Rafa and also hoping that the few internet trolls on this site who say they are fans but do nothing but piut rafa down Move on to someone they will show loyalty and respect to

  9. A very merry Christmas to Rafa, the loyal fans who post comments on this website and the rafaelnadalfans.com team! 2016 will be an amazing year for Rafa! Vamos Rafa!

  10. I keep hoping that the announcement, the real news, will come one of these days, the new coach that Nadal needs so much.

    • Forget about it. Rafa’s resting on his laurels at the ripe old age of 29, perfectly happy to let Novak and Roger battle it out for ‘GOAT’ status. I hate to say it, but that ship has sailed for our favorite player.

  11. Looking at the Slammers & Royals today I must admit the lack of genuine competition is rather disappointing. In my humble opinion, looks like Swiss W. is clearly PLAYING NOT LIKE HIMSELF at all , playing WAY WAY OFF with ridiculous BH OUT returns, giving Roger EASY EASY stage to win in Doubles…. It was especially bothersome and rather odd how Auzi K. played doubles against R and Nestor and K. was on a strong momentum , had a great roll where he broke the Royals once, and was about to serve to make 4:4…. thus leading the momentous competitive edge, BUT somehow out of the blue, K. was stopped at his winning flow, and was replaced with W. who obviously played very very poorly, where his BH & FH returns were strangely way way too strong and off sending important points out the court…… and subsequently, allowing R & Nestor to lead 5:3 and then win the Double set. …. Same with Singles here….. W. is CLEARLY not returning to win, coming up with way way OFF returns and R. once again declared the singles “winner”….” I did notice every once in a while W. did put in the effort to make this look like a competitive set….. but both matches today were way way off…… My observation may be wrong, I may be misreading the matches…. either way, whether my observation is right on, or off, reading the matches, the bottom line is TENNIS FANS & PLAYERS themselves DO KNOW their current level, and the true circumstances behind their important matches & Finals. Ultimately, when any player is being inflated with easy wins in Finals & other Tour matches, their victories are meaningless as their tennis history and background. THE FANS following tennis closely and by enlarge are well aware. We are taking time to reflect here because as soon as we heard two days ago, that Roger was going to be back on tour, somehow we knew Swiss W. was going to be there too, and playing opposite Roger’s team…. Furthermore, we somehow predicted the outcome of their performances, and sets. We do not have a magic won….but the ease of our predictability here is raising interesting questions. We sincerely wish the INDIAN ACES best of time & great fun and hope they & Mavericks will remain standing at the Finals!!!!!!!! : ) GO….. GO….. GO…… !!!!!!!!!!!!! : )
Clearly, when Rafa is not playing a tour, our family’s interest level is not quiet there…..watching or following a tour then becomes not quiet as much fun. With out Rafa, the matches lack passion and excitement, and we miss his creative gigantic magical game.
    VAMOS DEAR RAFA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) : ) : ) : ) Enjoy your nice break with your family & loved ones & fantastic great TEAM . God bless you & enjoy EVERYTHING !!!!!!!! : ) : ) : ) We are eagerly looking forward to your fabulous rewarding 2016 season!!!!!!!!!! : ) : ) : ) : ) : )

  12. So inspiring to see the work he and his girlfriend and family have been doing begin to come together. Hope many young people’s lives will be changed by what they are creating.
Where does he get the energy? He makes me so proud every day to call myself a fan.

    • Hmm, good for you. I prefer slam victories. Nadal should focus on that, he will then be able to much better focus on charity after his active career. And his charities will have more success if he would catch the all time slam record. But alas, Nadal has given up it seems. Indirectly, he hurts the good cause.

      • He never said he’s given up, that’s just your inference. If you’d bothered to read Rafa’s most recent interview he said he wants to spend 2016 at the top level of tennis.

And whilst he’s not there yet, he’s certainly shown a lot of improvement in the past few months. No one in a million years would’ve predicted he’d win all three of his Round Robin matches in London against the likes of Wawrinka and Murray, on his least favourite surface – even during good years, he’s not guaranteed to do well on indoor hardcourts. Since Beijing, Rafa’s played his best tennis since FO 2014. So if he’s “given up” why has he improved?

I understand you’re a pessimistic fan, but if you’re going to make an objective statement, you have to look at both sides of the argument. Rafa is clearly in a better position to challenge for big titles than he was five months ago. Why just assume next year will be negative?

You often accuse positive fans of looking at things through rose tinted glasses, but you’re just the same in reverse.

      • Arthur, Nadal has repeatedly said he does not think he can beat Djokovic and that he does not mind never winning another major. If that does not sound like giving up, what does? You can critize me for pointing out that Nadal misses ambition and misses out on becoming the biggest legend of tennis ever. But at least I am not a Gutmensch.

      • The reason why Djokovic has remained invincible/undefeatable is because it will take more than hardwork (during practice sessions) to defeat him. Hence the reason why it has been impossible (especially in 2014 and 2015) for any one person to beat Djokovic successively. Take Roger Federer for example, he was excited beating Djokovic in the 1st round of the ATP year end in London. After the match, Djokovic told the press that he ”let Roger win,” Roger Federer was angry at this remark and one would have thought that he would repeat the feat when he and Djokovic squared off the 2nd time at the final match. But what happened: he was mercilessly beaten by Djokovic, which indeed proved (beyond all reasonable doubt) that truly Djokovic ”let Roger Federer win the 1st match”

Djokovic’s rise to ultimate glory and supremacy in men’s tennis is not accidental at all. He has been retooling and retooling his game and strategy over the years until it has now become PERFECT. At one time (2010 – 2013) the only player that gave him headache was Rafa Nadal. Each loss to Nadal meant going back to the drawing board to restrategise, even if it meant getting a new coach. Finally, he has now Rafa Nadal exactly where he wants Nadal to be – his whipping boy!

Unfortunately, Nadal’s reaction has been poor and lazy to Djokovic’s dominance. He seems to be always afraid of playing Djokovic. To defeat Djokovic, Nadal will have to go back to the drawing board, retool, get a new coach and re-strategise. But I dont see Nadal doing any of these. He still believes in his worn-out, well-known old routines of doing things. This may work against some other players, (Roger Federer inclusive) but it will NEVER work against Djokovic.

Until Rafa completely overhauls his game (and time is fast running out on him), I dont see him having any chance against Djokovic. .

      • Great Thinker, your analysis is spot on. And it does not bode well for the future, unfortunately. Maybe somebody in camp Nadal will wake up and smell the coffee…..

  15. Not much rest for Rafael following his trip from India. What a wonderful initiative for young people in socially deprived circumstances. He has a strong social conscience.
Watched the ACES but the magic has gone with the departure of Rafael.
