PHOTOS: Rafael Nadal defeats Thanasi Kokkinakis in R2 at the Australian Open

Rafael Nadal defeated Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the third round of the Australian Open. His next opponent is the winner of the match between Jack Sock and Gael Monfils.

Thursday in Melbourne was another scorching day, with the temperature hitting over 109 degrees earlier in the day before the roof was closed at Rod Laver Arena. The first set was quick, with Rafa breaking early in the set to gain a lead, taking it at 6-2. The second set saw Rafa break in the first game to take an early lead. Despite Kokkinakis’ improvements, Rafa held serve to finish the set at 6-4. The third set went the way of the second, with Rafa closing out at 6-2.

With this win, Rafa reaches a 7-0 win record in 2014. Another step closer to the championship!
