After a thrilling victory over Novak Djokovic in the semifinal, Rafael Nadal will play Canadian Milos Raonic at the Rogers Cup in Montreal. Rafa will carry an ATP World Tour-best record of 47-3 in 2013 into Sunday’s final.
Date: August 11, 2013
Time: 9:00 pm CET, 8:00 pm BST, 3 pm local time
Rafa has played Raonic three times and holds a solid 3-0 win record over him, including twice on hard courts. Although Raonic is the local favorite, the odds are in Rafa’s favor to win the final.
Rafa has a career 23-4 vs. players ranked outside the Top 10 in finals, losing to No. 73 Horacio Zeballos at 2013 Vina del Mar, No. 19 Mikhail Youzhny at 2007 Chennai, No. 21 David Nalbandian at ‘07 ATP Masters 1000 Paris and No. 54 at ’04 Auckland. Nadal will move from No. 4 to No. 3 in the Emirates ATP Rankings on Monday. He is appearing in his 81st career ATP World Tour level final, 57-23 (7-2 in 2013) in finals. A two-time champion here (2005, ’08) he is looking to become the fourth player to win three or more titles here.
Rafa is attempting to win his eighth ATP World Tour title this year and it would mark the third time in his career he was won eight or more titles (in 2005 he won 11 titles, in 2008 he won 8 titles).
- Appearing in his 81st career ATP World Tour level final…57-23 in finals (7-2 in 2013)
- Appearing in his 36th career ATP Masters 1000 final……. 24-11 in finals (6-6 on hard)
To be in the final is amazing. To be in a final of a Masters 1000 is amazing for me… Tomorrow is an important match. For me, to win another Masters 1000 is a big illusion. But I know that anything can happen. If I lose tomorrow I will be very happy the way that I played and the result that I had this week.
